This is a very good Toph story which fits snugly in the Avatar Universe, telling a sweet, yet very philosophical story。 Really liked it even though I had to wait ages to read it。 。。。more

Pretty good but I'm not sure it meshes well with Korra canon regarding lavabending。 Pretty good but I'm not sure it meshes well with Korra canon regarding lavabending。 。。。more

História muito superficial e arte apenas ok。

Great little story of Toph, and even brings back the "Secret Tunnels" band。 I love that Toph is finding her way through these comics。 Also, she reminds me so much of my younger sister。 Great little story of Toph, and even brings back the "Secret Tunnels" band。 I love that Toph is finding her way through these comics。 Also, she reminds me so much of my younger sister。 。。。more

this book was so good but i thought it could be a little bit better and have a couple characters other than Toph and her students as well as Sokka

A fun one-off with an unexpected pairing up to boot!

SECRET TUNNEL!!!

This is a strong three stars lol。 I liked it! Enjoyable, “that’s my Toph!” feelings。

ATLA: Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy: 4 ⭐️This was a cute, short story about how Toph is bored with the daily routine of her work。 She needs to be inspired and reminded of why she started the academy in the first place。 It was cool to see lava bending and the music band from the lover's cave again! This is a fantastic addition to the comics, and I had a great time with the story。 It was fun to see some old favourite characters we haven't seen in the comics before, and the new characters introduced were pretty awesome too。 Definitely recommended (although best read as part of the comics series overall and not as a standalone)。 This is a fantastic addition to the comics, and I had a great time with the story。 It was fun to see some old favourite characters we haven't seen in the comics before, and the new characters introduced were pretty awesome too。 Definitely recommended (although best read as part of the comics series overall and not as a standalone)。 。。。more

GN, juv。 I will never say no to a story about the traveling musicians who sing 'Secret Tunnel。' I mean, there was some other stuff about Toph and her academy, but we all know who were the real stars。 GN, juv。 I will never say no to a story about the traveling musicians who sing 'Secret Tunnel。' I mean, there was some other stuff about Toph and her academy, but we all know who were the real stars。 。。。more

I have mixed feelings about the new batch of Avatar graphic novels。 They've stepped away from the three-part more serious arcs that defined the previous run, and instead each book is a single self-contained filler episode。 It always leaves me wanting more: more story, more momentum, more time in this world。However, there's nothing wrong with what little we DO get here。 Toph is a great character as always, and we even get a return of Chong and his compatriots (of "Secret Tunnel" fame)。 The gap pe I have mixed feelings about the new batch of Avatar graphic novels。 They've stepped away from the three-part more serious arcs that defined the previous run, and instead each book is a single self-contained filler episode。 It always leaves me wanting more: more story, more momentum, more time in this world。However, there's nothing wrong with what little we DO get here。 Toph is a great character as always, and we even get a return of Chong and his compatriots (of "Secret Tunnel" fame)。 The gap period between Avatar and Korra is slowly but surely getting fleshed out, and every puzzle piece that falls into place is a delight。 。。。more

I liked this one much better than the Katara book, which felt slight。 This one feels a lot meatier。 It doesn't hurt that it's for used on my favorite character in the world of Avatar。 I liked this one much better than the Katara book, which felt slight。 This one feels a lot meatier。 It doesn't hurt that it's for used on my favorite character in the world of Avatar。 。。。more

Great showcase for a post-show Toph。 It makes sense that Toph, of all characters, would struggle with fitting into her new role as teacher, and Hicks does a great job showing how she's chafing at what feels like a boring new life。 Toph gets new motivation here, and it makes a great bridge between the Toph we left in the last episode of Airbender and the one we eventually meet in Korra。 Great showcase for a post-show Toph。 It makes sense that Toph, of all characters, would struggle with fitting into her new role as teacher, and Hicks does a great job showing how she's chafing at what feels like a boring new life。 Toph gets new motivation here, and it makes a great bridge between the Toph we left in the last episode of Airbender and the one we eventually meet in Korra。 。。。more

Toph is my favorite of the Gaang, so I was excited to get a comic about her! I wasn’t sure what to expect。 This was fun, and totally realistic of Toph; I just think her students will take some time to grow on me。

Toph is growing bored with her staid life teaching classes。 She misses the excitement of fighting in the underground bender battles to survive。 Basically she's going through the same mid-life crisis everyone goes through when their life becomes more comfortable and stable。 It's all rather boring。 Peter Wartman's art is spot on though。Received a review copy from Dark Horse and Edelweiss。 All thoughts are my own and in no way influenced by the aforementioned。 Toph is growing bored with her staid life teaching classes。 She misses the excitement of fighting in the underground bender battles to survive。 Basically she's going through the same mid-life crisis everyone goes through when their life becomes more comfortable and stable。 It's all rather boring。 Peter Wartman's art is spot on though。Received a review copy from Dark Horse and Edelweiss。 All thoughts are my own and in no way influenced by the aforementioned。 。。。more

3。5/5I was really excited to see my girl Toph headline her own standalone comic。 She’s been a favorite of mine since the animate series, and。I loved her growth throughout the sequel comics as well。 She’s clearly always been headstrong and stubborn, but Team Avatar softened a few of her edges, and made her a bit more empathetic to those who weren’t on her level。 Here, we see her dealing with the ennui of “settling” into her successful metal bending school, and feeling like the exciting days of ad 3。5/5I was really excited to see my girl Toph headline her own standalone comic。 She’s been a favorite of mine since the animate series, and。I loved her growth throughout the sequel comics as well。 She’s clearly always been headstrong and stubborn, but Team Avatar softened a few of her edges, and made her a bit more empathetic to those who weren’t on her level。 Here, we see her dealing with the ennui of “settling” into her successful metal bending school, and feeling like the exciting days of adventure and discovery are behind her。 We see some of this maturing in the earlier comics, which is why this one-shot didn’t totally feel like a building block for her story。 I had the same issue with Katara and the Pirate’s Silver which was great fun, but didn’t feel super necessary to the overall A:TLA canon。 Toph comes to a resolution of her own feelings fairly quickly, and her interest in the lava bender felt more like a piece of a larger story, rather than one that could be wrapped up so quickly。I was so pumped to see my other two faves, Sokka and Suki, come onto the scene, but I felt like they were really underused, more like a frame story than actual figures in the plot, which was a real shame! Sokka always gets the short end of the stick anyway, and this could have been a really fun way for him to get a bit more page time。 But I’m grateful for any chance to read about these goofs, so I can’t complain too much。 I can only hope that Suki’s standalone comic, coming out this summer, holds up for me!Like all the other A:TLA comics, this is a quick fun read that still has the trademark humor and delicate issues that makes the whole franchise so great。 While I don’t know that it’s the strongest of the bunch, it will certainly satisfy existing fans who want a bit of extra time with these characters。 。。。more

I loved Toph’s passion for her school getting reignited。 It was very on brand for her to be bored with routine。 I also enjoyed seeing a softer moment where she talks about how much she cares about her students and wants a safe space for earthbending kids。 It was nice。 And having Sukka appear at the begging and end? Entertaining but not my favorite comic in the Avatar series。 The story was okay - it was about Toph having a mild crisis when she becomes bored by the routine of her life, but I felt that the comic was way too short to fully explore this theme。 I do think this comic helps bridge the gap between ATLA Toph and chief of police Toph; we see her shifting away from being reckless to someone who is a little more responsible。
